Minutes from April 5, 2002 and February
15, 2002 were approved as written.
Subcommittee Reports
Office XP Study Committee
No report. This committee has been de-commissioned.
Student Computing Committee
Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner announced that the committee will be reviewing the implementation of Zen Works. Elizabeth also reported that some students are forgetting to log out of their Students in the Tree accounts in the labs. A "poster campaign" will be launched to remind students to log out. Lab managers will be made aware.
Long-term Linux Support Subcommittee
No report.Cooperation and Coordination Committee
Maurice announced that a charge for the new Cooperation and Coordination committee had been developed. The committee has not yet met.
Extended Warranties for Compaq
Servers
Allen Bradley announced that the end of the three year warranty period
for Compaq Server maintenance is approaching. There are three
options for these machines:
1) buy new servers (at a lower cost)
2) extend the warranty
under the same terms as the previous contract for one year
3) promise to
"pay-as-you-go"- departments agree to pay for maintenance as it
occurs
Daren Dugan has pricing and part information and can also provide lists of server parts that will no longer be supported.
Old Business
EIS Status
Maurice announced that vendor service presentations were made last
week. Vendors now have
an
opportunity to submit a "best and final offer", which will be
their last opportunity to give good deals
on software. The
"best and final offer" for software implementation phase has not
yet been submitted.
SAN
Maurice announced that the SAN is up and running but is not yet connected.
New Business
None.
Status Reports
Chris Strauss announced that he needs feedback from network managers
about the RemMail implementation.
Pat Evans reported that the announcement of RemMail's availablity will be made soon.
Philip Baczewski reported that a number of machines still reference the old mail domain. A list of machines will be posted on Netman. Philip also reported that a number of faculty members are assigning coursework on people.unt.edu. people.unt.edu is used for personal use by students and should not be used for classroom assignments. A classroom web service has been offered, and a new, more robust web server will be available in the summer. More information will be published in the Benchmarks newsletter and an offical notice message will be mailed.
Daren Dugan announced that he's moving forward with eDirectory. The sooner everyone moves to eDirectory, the sooner the move to Netware 6 will take place. Plans are to move to Netware 6 in the summer.
Charlotte Russell introduced Patrick McLeod, the new part-time Information Security Assistant.
Gary Mathews reported that he is making recovery efforts initiated by the loss of a faculty member.
Scott Windham reported that is he working with MicroMaintenance to resolve Ghost issues.
Mike Maner reported that there is a bug in the implementation of redundancy associated with Cisco processor cards.
Pam Hight reported Microwave problems, and, that the cyber cafe will not be ready for dead week or finals.
Bill Jones reported that nothing new has happened.
