Subcommittee Reports

Unix Support Committee
No report.

Student Computing Committee
Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner reported that the Student Computing Committee will meet during mini-mester.

Cooperation and Coordination Committee
Kirk Kelly reported that the Cooperation and Coordination Committee has not met.

Software License Audit Report
Maurice Leatherbury summarized findings on the recent computer software audit.  The majority of departments on campus were involved in the audit. Recommendations included distributing software compliance materials to network managers.  A copy of the
Software Copyright Compliance Review performed by UNT's Internal Audit department is available, as well as information that will assist in achieving software compliance (Computer Software Compliance at UNT).

Old Business
Maurice announced that all parts for the SAN are here, including the rack.  Software will be installed soon, and machines may be attached as starting next week.  Maurice also announced that best and final offers are due back from software vendors.

New Business
None.

Status Reports
Pam Hight reported the following:  the microwave is down; fiber is expected next month; the web server applications will be split and shared by three other servers; the on-line catalog will undergo a millennium upgrade; the coffee shop is not yet open but may be open next week;  and May is a very busy month for UNT Libraries.

Jason Myre reported that access is now available to a test web server.  See Jason for more information.

Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner reported that Smartforce will be down during the first week of mini-mester in order to test new Smartforce plug-ins.  Elizabeth also reported that the Student Computing Planning Group is gathering computing information for the freshman class, and, that new statistical applications, Stata and Nudist,  will be placed on Gauss.  Elizabeth may be asking DCSMT members to participate in testing.

Jason Gutierrez announced that GroupWise 6 training courses have been developed for faculty and staff.  The courses will be made available in the fall.  Contact Jason for interest in training in the summer.

Kirk Kelly announced that Housing will be upgrading Netware servers to 5.1, and the e-mail stands will be positioned at front desk areas beginning at the start of the fall semester.  E-mail stands are for freshman and parents.

Sandy Burke announced that she is updating the network managers list.  Send updates to Sandy.

Rich Anderson reported that he's been doing forensics on a compromised Windows 2000 machine that was participating in an IRC chat.  UNT may need to re-examine how Windows 2000 machines are configured.

Mike Hatch announced that two new servers are on order, and that he will add two node servers to act as primary production servers.
