Single Sign On Committee
The single sign-on committee will meet on
Monday, November 22, 2004.
Blogging
Richard Anderson reported that he met with Shannon Peevey to discussed
blogging issues (problem space, content management, and meeting the needs of
users.
Report on Dell Executive
Briefing
Maurice Leatherbury reported that the Dell executive briefing was
interesting. There was a tour of the factory floor where he was able
to observe construction of equipment parts as well as the service operations
center. The presentation was informative. Areas represented were
PeopleSoft, Novell, Oracle, Enterprise Services, a SAN group, etc.
Microsoft
Technical Briefing
Lisa Faia and DJ Washington gave an overview of UNT's licensing agreement
and two Microsoft products: Virtual Server 2005 and Microsoft Operations
Manager 2005:
Microsoft Licensing
e-Learning is part of the licensing agreement. Additional media can also be purchased.
The student select program will be offered to students after the contract is approved by UNT's legal office. With this program, students can purchase software at an academic price (i.e. Office 2004 for PC and MAC; Windows XP upgrade). The UNT Health Science Center can also be included in the contract.
SMS, Exchange, and Sharepoint
Portal server will be part of the next license.

New Business
Bahram Paiani reported the the unix services group will conduct load balance
maintenance on Saturday night. Mailhost will be brought up after
maintenance is complete.
Status Reports
Tim Christian reported that he has been experimenting with methods for
removing the netware client from workstations.
Bill Jones reported that UNTHSC
will begin blocking pornography from their site. They will be working
with the UNTHSC Human Resources department to develop a policy.
Mike Hatch announced that COBA
will be selling LCD flatscreen monitors. 300 17" viewsonic
monitors are available. Send e-mail to Mike if interested.
Roy Zumwalt reported that a
benefits eligible position is open in TAMS.
Steve Vocelka reported that the
mainframe will be shutdown on November 30, 2004. Print Service hours
will change to 6am -6pm in print room.
Old forms will be recycled. Contact Steve if interested in obtaining
forms for other printers on campus.
Steve also reported that Facilities will be doing electrical work at the Research Park. Contact Steve if there are concerns about power outages.
