APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from February 17, 2006, were approved as written.

MICROSOFT SUPPORT CONTRACT

Craig Terrell, CITC, reported that UNT has purchased a 6 month Microsoft Support contract covering everyone on campus. If a problem is experienced, a Remedy ticket should be submitted or call the helpdesk. If the problem can't be resolved 'in house', Microsoft support will resolve the problem.

The following 4 services are available with the contract: Support Assistance (infrastructure support), Problem Resolution Support (24 x 7: problem resolution), Information Services (Technical Account Manager onsite visit, Microsoft Premier Online), and Support Account Management (Account profile, planning facilitation). A limited number of support hours are available. Windows 2000 Server and above along with associated software will be supported.

Windows NT 4 servers are no longer supported by Microsoft. Microsoft has offered to help system administrators migrate from NT4 servers to Windows 2000 or above, if UNT assistance is requested. Anyone interested in such service should contact Craig Terrell.

DELL PRINTER SUPPORT FOLLOW-UP

Dell representative, Bill Neiderstadt, said that Judy Hunter (Willis Library) has been authorized to be a service technician for Dell printers. The Dell management tool in field test mode is able to look at all printers across the network (not just Dell printers). He suggests that UNT not order from www.dell.com, but rather use a Dell Premier site designed for UNT. The www.dell.com/recycle can be used to print return labels for recyclable items. As a result of these discussions, Bill agreed to arrange for a Dell Premier purchasing site for UNT so that we can get Dell's best pricing on printers and printing supplies.

Bill mentioned that UNT Dell marketing representative Keith Cullum's sales area has been changed to just UNT, Texas Tech, OU, and OSU, allowing him more time available for UNT. Mumbo Weems and Michelle Thomas are UNT's new internal sales contacts. Mumbo handles printer-related purchases and Michelle handles anything else.

OLD BUSINESS

No old business was discussed.

NEW BUSINESS

No new business was discussed.

AREA REPORTS

Tim Christian said that Dell's notebook (610) will be replaced by the 620 and the X1 will be replaced by the D420 notebook in a few months.

Uwe Rossbach said that his HP server has had problems losing drive information.

Mike Wright said that a server and server application category was approved for a select agreement which should provide better pricing for server-related software. He will send e-mail to the Netman group as soon as he's received the new pricing information.

James Strawn said that the transition to new ID cards has generally gone well within the GAL system, but that some students were still caught unaware that their old ID cards would not be accepted after March 1.

Scott Windham reminded the group that there will be a brief outage this Sunday at 11.00 a.m. for an ISBCORE router upgrade.

Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner said that Checkin, CBT, and Gauss servers will be unavailable as a result of power reconfiguration Sunday, March 5, from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for April 7, 2006.
