APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from February 16, 2007, were approved as written.

DELL PRINTER ROADMAP

Tom Anderson and Keith Cullum of Dell, Inc. were in attendance to provide a current overview of Dell's printing products. Tom Anderson discussed the various printer models Dell currently offers and alerted the group to new models that are currently or soon to be available. He also reminded the group that Dell's OpenManage Printer Manager software can be freely downloaded from http://support.us.dell.com/.

OLD BUSINESS

Steve Vocelka said that the GAB electrical upgrades last weekend went well and he thanked everyone for their help. The generator is almost completely installed (for CITC and CAS) now and should be finished by mid-March. The load testing will be done offline.

Jason Myre has found a DST bug which was supposed to have a patch by March 1. Novell is still working on a patch which is expected March 5.

NEW BUSINESS

Jason Gutierrez said that a new GroupWise Instant Messenger security patch will be out soon. GWIM is inserting Asian characters in messages and the patch will solve the problem.

Uwe Rossbach suggested a committee to discuss Office 2007 rollout and plan. Philip Baczewski asked that Uwe coordinate the committee as chair. The committee will include Robert Wellman (COE), Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner (ACS Student Computing), Jim Byford (ABN Lan Mgmt), Jason Gutierrez (CITC Network Computing Services), and any others who wished to volunteer. The committee will identify issues involved with rolling out Office 2007, and develop one or more scenarios outlining how a rollout could be accomplished in a coordinated and efficient way.

Uwe wanted to know how many security breaches UNT has had (except breaches with ResNet) so it can be judged how big or small a security problem we really have. Philip Baczewski said that we send monthly incident reports to the security team for DIR reporting and perhaps a summary could be made available to distributed managers. Chris Strauss suggested that we ask the information security team make a presentation to DCSMT.

Discussion ensued regarding IE 7, Java, WebCT and other topics which prompted Patrick Plucht to provide an overview of plans to evaluate replacement Course Management System possibilities for WebCT Vista version 3, and related that a proposal for this process is currently before the IRC and scheduled for a vote on March 13.

AREA REPORTS

Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner reported that CBT courses will be down until March 6 in order to roll out the new expanded collection. She will also look into the availability of Office 2007 courses within the new collection.

Patrick Pluscht will demonstrate Horizon Wimba Live Classroom at the next meeting (March 16, 2007, in Chilton 245).

The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for March 16, 2007.
