APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from July 20, 2007, were approved as written.

MICROSOFT AD/EXCHANGE MIGRATION

Maurice Leatherbury reported that the GroupWise to Exchange migration project is on indefinite hold while work is continuing to stabalize the hardware infrastructure and do extensive testing by the CITC Network Computing Services Staff. He related that the original three-month summer conversion schedule may have been too optimistic and that because we chose to adopt Outlook/Exchange 2007, the specific knowledge of that new version was not readily available. Plans remain to drop most Novell products by August of 2008, but no firm date will be provided for the GroupWise to Exchange migration until CITC staff are confident that a reliable Exchange system can be provided to campus.

OLD BUSINESS

Philip Baczewski reported that progress had been made to provide Office 2007 in CSS Classrooms along with Office 2003, with Office 2003 remaining the default application for opening documents. Jim Curry's CSS group has tested the configuration with the most commonly used classroom response systems and found no problems. DCSMT will reexamine this issue before the Spring semester to determine if it is still appropriate.

Tom McElwee mentioned that in anticipation of needs for the beginning of the Fall semester, MMS would stock some of the recommended Dell desktops to support a quick purchasing turnaround by departments who might have that need.

NEW BUSINESS

No new business was discussed.

AREA REPORTS

Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner handed out helpdesk.unt.edu/studenttour lanyards which have been provided at new student orientations to point students to a comprehensive site for campus IT information.

Steve Vocelka discussed the power outage that occurred on Sunday, 8/12/2007. The GAB generator came on and supplied backup power, but shut itself down after a time because of over heating. UNT Facilities had developed plans to better exhaust the heat from the generator.

Dan Kidd announced that MMS now has a degausser capable of erasing hard disks.

Gary Mathews announced that ISB 201 would again be available for meetings after the beginning of the Fall semester.

Jason Myre stated that the Notifylink PDA synchronization software license has been extended by 6 months to accommodate the delay in the Exchange implementation.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 10:48 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for September 7, 2007
