APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from October 5, 2007, were approved with modifications.

IRONPORT TOP-LEVEL MAIL ROUTER

Bahram Paiani presented an overview of issues which led to the unscheduled replacement of the top-level mail routers with devices from Ironport. He explained that there had been a dramatic spike in e-mail connection attempts which the old mailhost servers could not handle without significant delays in mail delivery. The Ironport devices had been operating in parallel for several weeks with no problems. Placing them in production increased the efficiency in mail handling but changed the method in which spam messages are identified and quarantined. Bahram explained that to see quarantined mail for a service or alternate mail address, that mail address should be added to the list of addresses in the Account Management System e-mail utility. Some concern was expressed that some mail connections would be rejected without UNT recipients ever knowing it. Bahram explained that these issues existed with the previous mail routing system and that such cases still needed to be handle on an individual basis. He asked distributed managers to monitor their spam e-mail quarantined by IronPort and to report any apparent technical problems to him.

AGENDA ITEM

Keith Cullum of Dell Inc. introduced John Forshay as our new Dell account representative for UNT. Keith has accepted a promotion at Dell and John will take over the role that Keith played. In addition, Mark McClung from Dell was in attendance and will be the primary marketing resource for Dell server technologies. John mentioned that our inside sales contact has also change and promised to relay complete information for redistribution to distributed support managers.

OLD BUSINESS

Distributed support managers were urged to review the test implementation of the ITSM 7 system slated to replace Remedy. The next meeting is scheduled for December 7 and will feature updates on the MS Exchange migration and the MS Active Directory implementation.

Mike Hatch asked if there were any updates on moving to Active Directory and Windows file and print services. Philip Baczewski related that Craig had previously reported that the Active Directory structure is completed and promised to invite Craig to December 7 meeting for a further update. Jason Myre asked managers to look at ID reports generated on Sundays to be sure that all Groupwise accounts could be associated with an EUID or EMPLID. He stated that the week after Thanksgiving, all of CITC will be on Exchange. Philip Baczewski stated that the Exchange Migration and Active Directory projects would be the focus of the December 7 meeting.

Uwe Rossbach asked if managers would be receiving the monthly security incident reports promised from the CITC Security Team. Rich Anderson replied that he would investigate the status of those reports.

NEW BUSINESS

No new business was discussed.
