APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from February 1, 2008, were approved with minor corrections.

PLANNED CAMPUS POWER MAINTENANCE

Sheri Lara and Steve Mathis from UNT Facilities were on hand to discuss planned electrical maintenance to a number of UNT buildings. DCSMT was consulted to help minmize the impact of the maintenence on IT resources. The maintenance will require the shut off of power to buildings between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Maintenance for the ISB, GAB, and Chilton Hall is scheduled for the spring break week, since those buildings support critical parts of the campus network infrastructure. The maintenance is planned to start on February 26 and extend through April 3. DCSMT members again discussed the Microsoft Office support strategy in preparation for a presentation at the February IRC meeting.

OLD BUSINESS

DCSMT members again discussed the Microsoft Office support strategy in preparation for a presentation at the February IRC meeting. Philip Baczewski presented a document to be distrubuted at the February 19 meeting of IRC which described the transition from Office 2003 to Office 2007 on campus. Distributed Managers suggested that this transition be described as ongoing with expected completion to be by Fall of 2008.

Chris Strauss demonstrated features in the new ITSM call tracking system that will allow searching of all prior tickets made in Remedy and also the feature to post a notice of a campus-wide service outage. Philip Baczewski announced that the FERPA awareness standard for ITSM support staff will be to require a record of University FERPA training and certification provided by the registrar's office. This standard will be gradually phased in by encouraging those without a record of the certification to complete the process as soon as possible.

NEW BUSINESS

No new business was discussed.

AREA REPORTS

Philip Baczewski introduced Diana Mullet who has returned to the UNT staff as a member of the facilities IT team.

Scott Jackson announced that Katy Gallahan has accepted another position within the University and that her prior position was open. He also reported that the UNT Libraries had made the migration from Groupwise to Exchange and Outlook.

Katy Gallahan announced that she was now managing the Adminitration IT support area and had several positions she was trying to fill.

Dan Kidd asked if managers wished to standardize on one particular UPS system. The concensus of managers was that desktop UPS systems could now be considered consumable items, since the batteries have limited life. So, no support from Micocomputer Maintenance for UPS systems was needed.

Sean Flowers announced that the College of Engineering IT Manager position was filled, but is not public information yet.

Tim Christian announced that CAS is changing out entire server infrastructure at the start of spring break.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 11:35 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for MARCH 7, 2008.
