DCSMT held a special meeting on March 27, 2009. The primary topic of the meeting was provisioning software and systems using Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager.

Before discussion turned to software provisioning, Maurice Leatherbury (CITC/CIO) queried the group as to the level of interest in Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Sharepoint in relation to an opportunity to expand access for those products. Managers agreed that student access to UNT's Sharepoint services would probably generate the most interest.

Larry Talley (CITC MMS/Sharepoint) asked managers if changes could be made to the UNT domain to support authentication to Sharepoint. Consensus was that the requested changes could be made.

Discussions regarding software provisioning revealed that only a couple of areas were using Microsoft SCCM and that some were still using Microsoft SMS. Many managers expressed and interest in SCCM training and it was agreed to pursue an on-campus trianing offering in this regard. Further discussion indicated that an automated deployment process as well as packaging were important issues. Curry Searle (CITC ACUS) agreed to share a script used to automate software deployment.

Dicussion briefly turned to power management of desktop workstations. Two areas mandate that desktops be powered down at night, however, other areas either only recommended that desktops be powered down or required that they stay powered up. The reasons that people gave for leaving systems powered on were to push out software updates overnight, to allow remote desktop access from off campus, and to avoid a lengthy startup at the beginning of the business day.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
