APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes from October 2, 2009, were approved with minor amendments.

AD UPDATE

Craig Terrell and Yancey Yeargan (CITC Directory Services) were on hand to answer questions regarding the UNT AD tree and other directory services issues. Craig provided an overview of the upgrade of the AD servers to the 2008 version. Craig indicated that restore tools would be better in Server 2008 with the AD recycle bin, and that managed service accounts could be supported with non-expiring passwords. Paul Hons (COE) asked if it would be possible to have an encrypted file system on a network share, and Craig said that would not be possible. Tim Christian stated that CAS was using TrueCrypt for that function. When asked about saving Mac OS preferences in AD, Craig stated that schema extensions would be needed and would be applied after the upgrade process was finished.

Yancey Yeargan discussed issues regarding job title data in AD and LDAP as received from EIS in light of the classification title change implemented in September by UNT HR. Philip Baczewski (DCSMT Chair) agreed to attempt to get more information as to how the classification versus working title was being implemented and managed in Peoplesoft.

OLD BUSINESS

Philip Baczewski inquired about SCCM use and suggested that an initial SCCM working group meeting be held during a DCSMT "off week".

NEW BUSINESS

Philip Baczewski reminded distributed manages of the CITC's offer to provide no-cost virtual server and storage hosting to distributed departments. The VM Service includes server systems, storage, and backup service. Katy Gallahan asked about the backup cycle for virtual hosts. It was indicated that there was a 2 week retention cycle with daily incremental backups. When asked if the CITC offered media storage, Craig Terrell indicated that it was not a service of the CITC. Tim Christian asked if the Backup service was available as a separate service.

Jason Gutierrez said that a new agreement with Apple will provide iWork and iLife software for Mac OS X systems on campus. 10.6 OS X Server will be available at low cost with unlimited client connections as will Apple Remote Desktop. Support with Apple for OS X Server, OS X Client, Ad interaction, and the Pro Application Suites has been renewed.

AREA REPORTS

Jason Gutierrez announced that iPhone active sync with EagleConnect was not currently working with the UNT domain and that a call in this regard was open with Microsoft.

Chris Stoermer announced that the Student Health and Wellness Center was investigating several medical records systems and that vendors would be on campus starting on Oct. 20 to demonstrate their products. He invited any interested distributed managers to attend the demonstrations and asked that he be contacted for additional details.

Tom Bunten (UNT HSC) noted that HSC would be sharing UNT's AD infrastructure.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for November 6, 2009.
