APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from May 7, 2010, were approved as written.
MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSING
Donnie Hall from Microsoft was on hand along with Kelly Stanley (by phone) to discuss licensing of Microsoft software at UNT. Donnie first announced that he will be UNT's online marketing representative for Microsoft. In response to a question Donnie stated that software acquired through Microsoft Technet could only be used for testing and proof of concept and not for production deployment. Additionally, when questioned about use of Microsoft products in virtual desktop implementations, Kelly stated that any PC accessing software via a virtual desktop image must be licensed for that software. Microsoft does not offer any concurrent licensing and may need to develop an alternate licensing model to support virtual desktop installations, but that none was currently available. Microsoft representatives indicated that further discussion was necessary to determine the appropriate licensing language to support virtual desktop use and until that language was determined, they supported maintaining the status quo regarding deployment of virtual desktops with Microsoft software.
HP LAPTOP/DESKTOP OVERVIEW
Representatives from HP were on hand to provide managers with a technology briefing on HP desktop and laptop products. Jeff Randall, UNT's marketing representative from HP introduced Bob Bofinger who provided an overview of HP's Elite brand and other lines of business class desktops and laptops. Kelly Loy and Gary Jones from HP provided an overview of business class printers and provided several recommendations to distributed managers.
No old business was discussed.
No new business was discussed.
Katy Gallahan mentioned that she has run into issues regarding purchase of iPad devices for UNT administrators.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for June 4, 2010.
