Minutes from January 21, 2011, were approved after minor additions.


Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner introduced Tom McElwee who related that UNT has used Gartner now for 3 1/2 years. All faculty, staff and students have full access. The service has been used in many ways, specifically for acquiring Compellant storage technologies. Tom was able to talk to a Gartner researcher who was knowledgeable about Compellant, asked questions regarding market impact, reliability, etc. The CITC gained comfort with Compellant through Gartner and the acquisition has resulted in lowered costs for storage and backup. He said that the CITC needs input on how UNT can best use the Gartner services to our advantage and wants to solicit help and thoughts in this regard. Tom introduced Jani Randall of Gartner. Jani is an account executive for Gartner's Academic Section and is assigned to UNT. She introduced her colleagues, Terry Lynn Seaton and Derrick Nojambe, who were on hand to demonstrate the Gartner website. UNT can access the Gartner site by logging in at https://gartner.unt.edu/ .


Krista Berry introduced new a member of her team, Alex Shatz. She is now working with Alex and David Franklin. She provided managers with a schedule for upcoming datacomm switch upgrades. At end of year, they will have approximately 20 datacomm closets on campus left to upgrade. during the upgrades, outage times will be five minutes per building, then one minute per port.


No new business was discussed.


Alan Anderson (CITC Security) introduced himself and announced that he is taking over responsibility from Gabe Marshall for IT security training. Training will be on the 4th Wednesday of every month at alternating locations. See at security.unt.edu for more infomration. He also reminded managers of the availability of online training.

Charlotte Russell introduced Rachel Nurlage, who is CITC's new Assistant Director of Compliance and Planning. She will be handling compliance with audits, policies, federal law, as well as some legal and space management issues.


The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for March 4, 2011.
