APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from February 18, 2011, were approved as written.
LICENSED SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT SURVEY
Joe Diaz of UNT Internal audit discussed his project to examine software licensing and controls. He announced that he would be sending an e-mail survey to all distributed managers and said he would appreciate the feedback they could provide. Once he has collected results, he promised to share them with the distributed managers.
DELL UPDATE AND DELL INTERACTIVE PROJECTORS
John Forshay (Dell) provided an overview of Dell 4000 and 6000 series laptops and showed some of the new features available in the new models. He also discussed the new Dell desktop models and provided information regarding the differences between the Series 390, 790, and 990. He offered to provide enterprise product information on request and noted that Dell had acquired Compellent, who feature SAN storage products (in use at UNT.)
Bill Niederstadt (Dell) showed Dell's line of projectors and demonstrated a Dell S500wi short throw projector that features interactive features that allow it to be used like a "smart board." He noted that the short throw projectors allow interaction from various distances without interference from a shadow. The projector comes with a wireless virtual pen and has built-in wireless capability. As many as four computers can send output to the projector at once, allowing for easy collaboration or instruction.
Chris Mays (EInstruction) demonstrated software bundled with the Dell projector, that allows interaction and annotation on any display coming from a Windows PC. He also demonstrated the MOBI-VIEW, a portable whiteboard and virtual pen that can be used from anywhere in the room to notate on the digital display.
Bill Niederstadt mentioned that Dell has a product line around digital signage. Distributed managers expressed interest in having a followup presentation at a later date.
Larry Talley (CITC Sharepoint) mentioned that Sharepoint currently requires 32-bit versions of Office and other applications for access.
No new business was discussed.
No area reports were given.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:32 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for April 15, 2011.
