APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from December 16, 2012, were approved as written.
ITSS AND UIT (AND DCSMT)
Philip Baczewski (DCSMT Chair) presented an overview of organizational changes in the forming of the UNT System IT Shared Services (ITSS) group as well as the UNT University IT (UIT) organization. ITSS consists of the portions of the former CITC that provide system-wide infrastructure services such as data communications, institutional e-mail, and EIS. Some organizational changes have been made within ITSS, with communications services reporting to Joe Adamo including Messaging, SharePoint, and Directory Services. Imaging services, and Distance Learning Support now report to Robert Jones, and Operations now reports to Craig Terrell as part of ITSS Enterprise Systems Technical Services.
In addition to organizational changes, a number of people have new roles. John Hooper now has a split appointment as System Deputy CIO and UNT CIO. Philip Baczewski has been appointed Deputy CIO for the UNT flagship. Katy Gallahan now works for ITSS providing desktop support services for UNT System organizations as well as for UNT Dallas. Bruce Pollock and Chris Bennett are now working with Katy as part of ITSS. Michael White is now Desktop Support Services Manager for UNT Dallas, and Chris Stoermer has replaced Katy as manager of ABN support services.
DCSMT's role and mission does not change as a result of these IT reorganizations. DCMST remains as a group to coordinate desktop technology support and local technology use issues for UNT, and to share and coordinate information with other UNT System campuses as appropriate.
In further discussion, it was noted that the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management is now the College of Hospitality Management and Tourism. Desktop support is still provided by the College of Public Affairs and Community Service IT support group.
The issue of cloud storage services was discussed. There has been no status change regarding use of DropBox or other such services. It was noted that many iPad apps use different of these services as part of the app's function. Rachel Burlage noted that UNT security policies already state that confidential information cannot be store on third-party sites. Tim Christian suggested that additional discussion take place, possibly leading to action or further advice from the ITC.
Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner asked that managers communicate with her regarding the numbers of Softrack tokens they actually have installed on desktops within their areas.
No new business was discussed.
No area reports were given.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2012.
