Annual Giving

Areas to support

Annual Giving dollars benefit many areas across campus and we encourage you to designate your gift to the school, college, program or fund that matters most to you.

If you are undecided about where to give, two areas of continuing need common to all schools and colleges are scholarships and unrestricted support.

Scholarships

Each year the number of students who apply for scholarships far outweighs the number of available awards. For example, in 2009, over 7,000 students applied for the UNT General Scholarship, and only 2,613 were awarded, leaving many deserving students without the aid they qualified for. Many of these students work and also carry loans to cover expenses. With the assistance of scholarships, the burden of paying for college can be lessened so students can focus more time and attention on learning.

You can help by choosing to help grow scholarship endowments, whether it's general and assists all students, or college or program specific. You can make your donation more personal by creating a scholarship in honor of a favorite teacher or loved one.

Unrestricted funds

Unrestricted funds are sometimes challenging to describe because of the varied ways these funds can benefit students and programs. While gifts designated for specific purposes must be used as directed, unrestricted support is unique in that it allows deans the flexibility to manage unforeseen and immediate needs.

Past unrestricted dollars have helped to

  • assist doctoral students with travel costs to present papers at national meetings
  • aid a student whose ability to complete school was threatened by unexpected financial circumstances
  • grow scholarship endowments
  • augment smaller scholarship distributions in order to award students the minimum amount of $1,000
  • pay membership dues in organizations that further knowledge or offer networking opportunities
  • support faculty to attend academic conferences
  • fund alumni and donor receptions
  • sponsor community events

No matter where you direct your gift, it makes a difference!
