Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign FAQ

Why should I support UNT by making a gift through the
Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign?

Giving is a personal decision and our individual reasons for contributing are many. But we have at least one common purpose—to support the reason we’re all here—the students.

As faculty and staff members, we have the privilege of working closely with students. The Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign allows us the opportunity to show that we believe in our students’ pursuit of their dreams. As you may know, tuition and state funding do not cover the entire cost to educate a student. Private gifts help make up the difference by supporting resources and opportunities such as new technology, library acquisitions and scholarships.

Corporations and foundations take an interest in faculty and staff giving. When UNT approaches them about endowing a scholarship, professorship or major university building, a question often asked is, "What percentage of your faculty and staff contribute to the university?" A high faculty/staff giving percentage is an endorsement by employees that the university is a worthy place to work for and deserving of their financial investment. Faculty and staff participation also plays a major role in academic rankings and the university's overall reputation.

Ultimately, your participation in We Care We Count is a vote of confidence in UNT and its future.

How much should I give?

Any amount that feels comfortable for you. Participation is truly our number one goal this year. Regardless of how much you choose to contribute, your gift will make a difference.

May I designate my gift to any area of campus?

Absolutely! You can designate your gift to any school, college, department or academic program of your choosing. Many donors opt to support the UNT President’s Fund, the university's unrestricted fund. This fund allows the university to address the area(s) with the greatest need and take advantage of unexpected opportunities that might benefit UNT. Others choose to give to the area or program where they’re employed so they may see their gifts at work firsthand.

How does payroll deduction work?

Payroll deduction is one of the most convenient ways to make a gift. By completing the payroll deduction section of the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign form, you specify the amount you would like automatically deducted from each paycheck, the start date and the area to receive your gift.

Who will know about my gift?

You will receive a receipt for tax purposes but the amount of your gift will remain confidential. If you wish to keep your gift entirely anonymous, you can indicate so on the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign form. Unless otherwise noted, all donors through the campaign will be listed on the donor honor roll and receive special recognition throughout the year.

Can I give jointly with my spouse?

Certainly! Simply complete the spouse information section of the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign form when making your gift.

Does my membership in the Alumni Association or gift to the SECC count as participation through the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign?

Although important, your contribution to the Alumni Association or the SECC doesn’t count towards participation in We Care We Count, as these programs operate independently of each other. We encourage you to also support the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign and give our students the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

I designated the UNT Foundation as the recipient of my SECC giving; does that count?

Thank you for selecting the UNT Foundation as the recipient of your SECC gift. There are two reasons we’re unable to count this gift as participation in We Care We Count. First, we are not notified of your contribution unless you chose the option to inform UNT of your giving. Second, when we’re provided the SECC list of donors there is no amount associated with the names so we would not know how much to credit.

Your gift to the SECC is valued, but also consider making a gift through We Care We Count and support the area on campus close to your heart.

I already made a gift this year; do I have to make another gift to be
part of We Care We Count?

Thank you for your gift! Any contribution made to UNT since the beginning of the fiscal year (Sept. 1, 2008) makes you a participant.
