From student to educator, recipient to donor
Jan Holden knows the value of scholarships and financial assistance. As a doctoral student, she completed her dissertation supported by a financial award. Now, as a professor of counseling, she is happy to give back to UNT students. Holden donates to the Emerald Eagle Scholars program, and to her college’s graduate travel fund so that students can attend professional conferences to present scholarly papers. She is establishing a scholarship in the College of Education to help doctoral candidates complete research in her specialty area of counseling.
Jan is like many faculty and staff who know that their support is important and valued. Contributions from donors like Jan tell others that the UNT community is committed to its educational mission and to the future.
A legacy of giving
Reggie Bond learned the value of giving and sharing by observing his father, who came from a poor, rural upbringing to become a university administrator and a first-generation college graduate. The elder Bond regularly assisted students who needed help with college expenses, and his son took note.
“I’ve always wanted to continue his legacy of giving, says Reggie, who is executive director of Student Health and Wellness Services, and is one of many UNT faculty and staff who donate to the university. Reggie’s donations support scholarships, funds that signal UNT’s commitment to making a college education a reality for talented students.
The art of giving
Randy Wallace works in the world of data, documents and numbers. He’s the head of the Library at Discovery Park. His wife, officed across campus, lives in a world of art and design. Kelly Donahue-Wallace is department chair in Art Education and Art History. The two work in different academic fields, but there’s no variance in their support for UNT. They support two scholarships for art history students, including one that sends graduate students on faculty research trips. Randy and Kelly hope students who receive financial help will eventually return their generosity by giving back to UNT.
Randy and Kelly Donahue-Wallace are among the many faculty and staff members who make financial gifts to UNT, providing valued support for the university’s purpose and mission.
