César Chávez was a man
of the people and as such, his life story, work, and principles, largely
reside in the hearts and minds of the people who stood and worked with
him.
His motto in life-"sí se puede" (it
can be done)-embodies the uncommon and invaluable legacy he left for the
world's benefit. César Chávez
was passionate about education. He believed that,
"The end of all education should surely be service to others," a belief
that he practiced all his life.
He was a tireless advocate for nonviolent social change, and dedicated
his life to working in service of others. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy called
Chávez "one of the heroic figures of our time."
The Life, Work and Ideas of César Chávez poster competition servers to
perpetuate the ideas of one of the most prominent
U.S. Hispanic
civil rights activist. In addition, this event continues UNT's
longstanding efforts
to
encourage sentiments and attitudes favorable to education among Hispanic
students enrolled at UNT, prospective Hispanic students, parents, and
Hispanic members of the general public.
The participating students will have the
option to
display their work during the
Latinos in the 21st
Luncheon scheduled for October 9, 2007. The keynote speech, "Si Se Puede" will be presented by Julie
Chávez Rodriguez.
Julie will acknowledge the participants and contest winners.
