The Commission on the Status of Women at the University of North Texas was established in August 1993. The purpose of the commission is to advise the President on issues related to providing positive working and learning environments for women faculty, staff and students. The membership on the commission includes faculty, staff and students appointed by the President. Men, women and members of minority groups are represented on the commission. In addition to sponsoring conferences that highlight women's issues and accomplishments, the commission provides recommendations to resolve issues regarding childcare, safety, equity and the Women's Center.
