2013 Emerald Eagle Honors: Recognizing a Lifetime of Contributions to the American Landscape
(formerly "The Emerald Ball")
Description:
This Kennedy Center Honors-type stage production will allow the UNT Foundation to annually
celebrate former UNT students who have made a profound impact on our culture and society.
Honorees for the inaugural year include former Pittsburgh Steeler and member of the Pro
Football Hall of Fame "Mean" Joe Greene ('69); Rock and Roll icon, the late Roy Orbison ('55)
(represented by his family); and Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm ('74, '84). Reality television star
Melissa Rycroft Strickland ('05) and Actor Peter Weller ('69) will co-host the evening's program.

Purpose:
The show will spotlight the wonderful stories of the evening's beneficiary, UNT's award-winning
Emerald Eagle Scholars program. Since it began in 2007, the program has raised more than
$1 million to make a UNT education possible for more than 2,400 high-achieving students from
low-income families.
