Parent (PLUS) Borrowers

Refunds from the Federal Parent Loan (PLUS) will be delivered to the parent borrower via either eRefund or by physical check. PLUS loan funds usually disburse by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to the student's university tuition and fee account. After paying current term charges (not including housing), refunds will be delivered to the parent borrower via either eRefund or by paper check. Parents are encouraged to complete an eRefund form to arrange for their excess PLUS proceeds to be delivered electronically to their personal checking or saving account. eRefund forms are available online at essc.unt.edu/saucs.

If PLUS funds are received by paper check at UNT, funds will not be applied to the student's account and will be mailed directly to the parent borrower. Parent(s) and/or the student will be responsible for paying charges at UNT.The University of North Texas and Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) have teamed up to provide you a Web-based way of applying for a Federal Stafford Loan called TG Loans By Web. The following will guide you step-by-step through completing and submitting an application.

Overview of the process for parent loans:

  • You have been awarded and have accepted your Federal Parent PLUS Loan on my.unt.edu. However, your loan process has not been finalized until you complete and submit your application according to TG's Loans By Web instructions.
  • Be prepared to provide two references including address and phone number information.
  • If necessary, download the free Adobe Acrobat software needed to print your master promissory note (MPN) and Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities.
  • When selecting a lender, you may have the option to electronically sign an MPN. Some lenders allow you to use your Department of Education personal identification number or PIN. If you do not know your PIN, you may obtain it at www.pin.ed.gov.
  • Do not send signed MPNs to your school. Your school will be notified electronically.
