The hospitality management industry continues to expand to new global markets. By pursuing a Master of Science degree in Hospitality Management at the University of North Texas, you enhance your career potential for upper-level positions in an ever-changing industry. Our integrated program allows you to apply theories and concepts to realworld problems. You’ll learn to:

In addition to the M.S. degree, we offer a dual degree with a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Hospitality Management and graduate academic certificates in hospitality management and event management. The M.S. degree can be obtained as part of a residential program or totally online.

Our courses are taught by experienced faculty members who are actively involved in industry research involving hotel and restaurant operations, legal and regulatory aspects, profitability, and consumer issues. Other research interests include quality management, services marketing and management, managerial competencies, food safety, nutrition and dining habits of consumers, tourism, sustainability, information technology, finance, and hospitality education and administration.

As a graduate student, you can take advantage of networking and job opportunities with an industry board of governors who work in national and international hospitality companies such as Aimbridge Hospitality, American Airlines Publishing, Boston Market, ClubCorp, the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, Hyatt Regency, Applebee’s, John Q.Hammons Hotels & Resorts, PepsiCo Foodservice, Omni Hotels, Travelocity, and UniFocus, among others.


Admission requirements

You must meet the admission requirements of the Toulouse Graduate School along with the following program requirements:

  • three completed SMHM recommendation forms from employers and/or former faculty
  • a resume
  • a professional essay that addresses your motivation and perseverance toward educational goals, academic or professional honors, recognitions and awards, and demonstrated commitment to your field of study

Master of Science
Residential or online thesis option

  • 6 credit hours of required hospitality management core courses
  • 12 credit hours of hospitality management courses
  • 6 credit hours in a minor
  • 6 credit hours of research tools
  • 6 credit hours of thesis course

Residential or online nonthesis option

  • 6 credit hours of required hospitality management core courses
  • 18 credit hours of hospitality management courses
  • 6 credit hours in a minor
  • 6 credit hours of research tools
  • pass written comprehensive exam

Recommended minors include marketing, management, finance, education, computer education and cognitive systems, and decision sciences.

Dual M.B.A./M.S.

  • 18 credit hours of business core courses
  • 12 credit hours of business specialization courses
  • 24 credit hours of hospitality management courses

Financial assistance

Numerous scholarships are available to hospitality management majors, and you can apply for financial aid awards from a wide variety of national, state, university and school resources. You may apply for competitive scholarships, teaching assistantships and teaching fellowships from the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism. Applications are available from the dean’s office.
