Eligibility Requirements
- New College Freshmen
The goal of the Honors College is to provide talented and motivated undergraduate students an enriched academic and intellectual experience, both in and beyond the classroom. Toward that goal, we seek to admit qualified students who will thrive in Honors. General guidelines for admission are provided below, although applicants are also assessed on other factors, including type of high school program, courses taken in high school, writing skills, and the recommendations of teachers and counselors who may be contacted concerning the student's qualifications for Honors. As admission is not based on scores alone, consideration will also be given to applicants slightly outside those guidelines who demonstrate special talent and potential for extraordinary academic and intellectual growth and achievement.
- New undergraduate students who are interested in Honors
College membership but do not meet these requirements are invited to
submit a portfolio of information that supports their application
for admission. While the portfolio will vary from student to
student, it should contain a statement of the student's academic
goals, a list of academic accomplishments and awards, three letters
of support from teachers and counselors, and three examples of
academic work, which could include graded papers with teacher
comments.
