An article by MICHAEL McGUIRE, associate professor of public administration, titled "Big Questions in Public Network Management Research" was published in the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, vol. 11, no. 3.

LAURA VALERIUS, associate professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, represented the recreation and leisure studies program at a Graduate Recruitment Showcase, coordinated the program's exhibit booth welcoming alumni and friends and attended meetings as an associate editor of Schole: A Journal of Leisure Studies and Recreation Education at the Texas Recreation and Park Society annual conference, Feb. 20-24 in Montgomery.

Gary AndersonGARY WELDON ANDERSON, 64, of Denton died July 12 at Denton Regional Medical Center. He retired in 1999 as an associate professor of teacher education and administration. He joined UNT in 1973.

Anderson, born in Towner, Colo., received his bachelor's degree in music and his master's degree in music and education from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo. He earned his doctorate in administration and political science at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

He was active in Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Association, the National Association of Teacher Educators, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Better Breathers at Denton Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Anderson of Denton; his mother, Muriel Anderson Hagins of Denton; two daughters, Gwen McCormick of Denton and Melanie Whittle of Decatur; one brother, Darrel Anderson of Towner, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held July 16 at DeBerry Funeral Directors.Donald Jones

DONALD MITCHELL JONES, 78, of Denton, Professor Emeritus of accounting, died June 30 at Denton Community Hospital. He was an associate professor of accounting from 1961 until his retirement in 1989. He also served as director of the Petroleum Accounting Center from 1979 to 1981.

Jones was born in Graham and served as a combat infantryman in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He graduated from North Texas with a bachelor of business administration in accounting in 1948 and a master of business administration in 1949.

He taught at San Angelo State College and worked in the field of oil and gas accounting before joining the accounting faculty at North Texas. He pursued doctoral studies at Louisiana State University. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Dallas chapter of the Petroleum Accountants Society, among other professional organizations.

He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Denton and was active in many community activities, including United Way and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Ruth Jones of Denton; a daughter LyAnn Peterson of Copenhagen, Denmark; three sons, Donald Jones of Grapevine, Wallace Jones of Lewisville and Robert Jones of Denton; a brother, Wallace E. Jones of Lampasas; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church on July 3.
