UNT has entered a contract with KWRD FM 100.7 to carry all 2001-02 UNT football and men's basketball games. Hank Dickenson, senior associate director of athletics and director of the Mean Green Club, says the contract with KWRD FM allows UNT fans to follow both men's and women's basketball, even if the two teams are playing at the same time. KNTU FM, UNT's 100,000-watt student radio station, will continue to broadcast the women's games, both at home and on the road, while KWRD FM's 100,000-watt station will carry football and men's basketball. When the women don't have a game, both stations will carry the men's game. In the past, KNTU FM has carried both the men's games and women's games, and if both teams played at the same time, only the men's game was broadcast. The dual station coverage now allows fans to tune in to either game if there are simultaneous game times. The 100,000-watt signal of both stations allows UNT fans all over the Metroplex and as far away as Oklahoma City and Shreveport, La., will continue to be able to hear the Eagles and the Lady Eagles play. "In short, it gives North Texas athletics significantly improved exposure," Dickenson says. The KWRD contract includes 60-second spotlights on the athletics department and the university as a whole. Dickenson says these spots will air 10 times a week, every week of the year. Alumnus George Dunham returns for his 12th year behind the mike as the play-by-play "Voice of the Mean Green." Dunham will handle the play-by-play announcing for all football games and about half of the men's basketball games. Dickenson joins Dunham for the fifth year as color commentator and the road-game play-by-play announcer for UNT basketball.
