Tuesday, April 5 Tea on Tuesday. All students, faculty and staff are invited to join the Women's Center and women's studies program for an afternoon of tea and snacks and to network and with other individuals about issues concerning women. 3:30-5 p.m., General Academic Building, Room 467. Wednesday, April 6 Yoga and Meditation. Featured presenter Rushika Patel, student services coordinator at the UNT Multicultural Center, will lead a yoga and meditation class. 3 p.m., University Union, Room 420. Wednesday, April 6 Protect Yourself Safety Program. Guest speaker Cpl. Ricky Olivarez, a crime prevention specialist with the UNT Police Department, will teach self-defense techniques. 6 p.m., Crumley Hall, Room 181. Thursday, April 7 Beyond Killing Me Softly. The film explores the image and impact of women presented by modern advertising and illustrates women being portrayed as sex objects and the exploitation of children. Noon, University Union, Room 430. Friday, April 8 and Friday, April 15 Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate Training. The SASA program is composed of volunteers who have attended training and agreed to act as support people for survivors of sexual assault. Classes are free to UNT students, faculty and staff, but pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call the UNT Wellness Resource Center at (940) 565-2787. Participants must attend both sessions. 1-5 p.m., Marquis Hall, Room 118. Registration deadline is April 7. Monday, April 11-Wednesday, April 13 Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to violence against someone. During the display, a clothesline is hung with shirts decorated to represent a particular experience. The project provides an opportunity for women to break the silence and celebrate their transformation from victim to survivor in a powerful statement of solidarity. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., University Union Courtyard. Tuesday, April 5; Thursday, April 14; Thursday, April 21 We're Not Gonna Take It. The program provides a location for students, faculty and staff to make signs to be displayed during the Take Back the Night Candlelight Vigil. Noon, University Union, Room 430. Monday-Friday, April 11-15; Monday-Friday, April 18-22 Sexual Assault Awareness Month Information Table. The information table will provide information regarding sexual assault through brochures, pamphlets and information packets. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., University Union, Level 1. Thursday, April 21 Take Back the Night Rally and Candlelight Vigil. The purpose of the rally is to demonstrate a community effort against violence and make all nights safe for everyone. The vigil's purpose is to honor survivors of sexual assault. Co-sponsored by the city of Denton, the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. Rally, 6 p.m., UNT Free Speech Area. Vigil, 7 p.m., Denton Courthouse on the Square. Monday, April 25 Speaking Out Poetry Reading. Co-sponsored by the Women's Center and Social Culture Arts and Talents organization, the program will honor survivors of sexual assault through creative and enlightening poetry. Refreshments provided. 7 p.m., University Union, One O'Clock Lounge. Tuesday, April 26 Sexual Assault Education Program. Joyce Rogers, the community education coordinator for Denton County Friends of the Family, will help educate the campus about sexual assault. 7 p.m., University Union, Lyceum.
