UNT to host annual Texas Higher Education Law Conference April 11-12

Nearly 400 representatives from more than 80 Texas colleges and universities will be on campus for the ninth annual Texas Higher Education Law Conference April 11-12 at the Gateway Center. The conference offers 24 workshops covering education law topics ranging from the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act to possible guidelines and changes for free speech zones on college campuses.

One of the conference highlights will be a live video conference from Austin with a group of state legislators led by Chris Griesel, deputy parliamentarian of the Texas House of Representatives.

One of the conference's key speakers, Teri Flack, deputy commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, will address the future of higher education. Other speakers include Sarah Woelk, general counsel of the Texas Ethics Commission, and Leroy Rooker, director of the Family Policy Compliance Office in the U.S. Department of Education.

Other topics include "What To Do When Your Faculty, Staff or Students Turn Out to Be Criminals," "Liability for Outside Groups on Campus," "Everything You Need to Know About Sex on Campus," "Top 10 Ways to Get Sued" and "Handling Bizarre Behavior: Dealing With Psychologically Impaired Employees/Students."

Registration fees are $275 for both days and $225 for one day only. Continuing education participants can receive education credit on request. For registration information, call (940) 565-3801 or visit www.unt.edu/ administration/conference_2005.htm.
