Angelou is a renowned poet, educator, historian, civil rights activist, actress, playwright, producer and director. Inclement weather prevented Angelou from appearing at an Equity and Diversity Conference event Feb. 27. She is the author of several best-selling books, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and A Song Flung Up to Heaven. In January 1993, Angelou wrote and recited an original work at the inauguration ceremony of President Clinton. Tickets for Angelou's performance may be purchased by calling the University Union ticket office at (940) 565-3805 or by visiting the ticket office, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. UNT faculty and staff may purchase up to two general admission tickets for $15 each with UNT ID, and UNT students may purchase up to two general admission tickets for $7.50 each with UNT ID. Tickets are $50 for floor seating, $30 for general admission without UNT ID and $15 for senior citizens and children younger than 12. Only those with Feb. 27 tickets will be admitted for seating beginning at 6 p.m. April 20. Gates A and B of the Coliseum will open at 6 p.m. for ticket sales, but all those who have purchased tickets since the Feb. 27 date will not be admitted for seating until 6:30 p.m. Although Angelou will not be available to sign copies of her books, the University Bookstore will sell several of her books, as well as other items, that evening in the Coliseum.
