UNT health center receives national recognition

The UNT Student Health and Wellness Center will be honored with the first Best Practices in College Health Award by the American College Health Association June 10 at the ACHA national conference in New Orleans.

The UNT center was recognized for its international health care web page, which assists international students in accessing health care in the United States. The site provides international students with basic information about the U.S. health care system and helps them make educated health-related decisions.

The award recognizes innovative and exemplary practices in counseling services, clinical services, administrative and consumer services, and health education and promotion. To be eligible for nomination, a program must be implemented at an ACHA member institution or an ACHA member must be directly involved in the program.

"The Student Health and Wellness Center exists to serve and meet the health care needs of our students," says Reginald Bond, executive director of student health and wellness services. "To look upon us as merely a provider would overlook the true mission of a health center, which is to assess and deliver medical care to a student population and also help students become more knowledgeable, better health care consumers."
