Refined UNT brand to be unveiled April 27 at public campaign launch
UNT will officially unveil an updated look for the university with a Discover UNT event at 10 a.m. April 27 in the University Union's Silver Eagle Suite. Marks for academic and spirit or athletic uses will be unveiled along with a new and brighter version of UNT's green school color.

Former UNT regent and donor dies at 92
E. Bruce Street Sr., 92, a friend and honorary alumnus of the university who served as a member of the UNT Board of Regents for almost 20 years (from the 1970s to the 1990s), died April 10. Funeral services were conducted in Graham April 13.

Regents pick construction managers for Denton, Dallas buildings
The UNT System Board of Regents approved two new construction projects during a special meeting on March 31. The initiatives will build a new student wellness center in Denton and the first UNT at Dallas building, both to open in time for classes in Spring 2007.

UNT, Nuconsteel sign research agreement
The College of Engineering and Nuconsteel of Denton have signed a unique partnership agreement that will establish a light gauge steel testing laboratory in the Department of Engineering Technology. The laboratory will be partially equipped and staffed using funding provided by Nuconsteel.

Work is under way to secure funds for 2005-06 faculty salary market adjustments
After implementing faculty market adjustments this fiscal year, Howard Johnson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, is working to secure money for fiscal year 2006 to make further adjustments to improve faculty salaries.

Check UNT's policy before accepting a second job
Summer is near and, for some, so is the prospect of adding a summer job. According to UNT policy, faculty and staff can take on part-time positions and freelance work in addition to their UNT positions; however, these jobs must be approved by a department supervisor and meet the following set of university guidelines.

Six faculty members were recognized during the Honors Day celebration April 8 for their contributions to the university. Each spring, UNT honors students for academic excellence and presents faculty with student-awarded honors for high-quality teaching and service to the UNT community.

Law school proposal moves forward
UNT will open the first public law school in Dallas and the North Texas region by 2010 if a bill passed in the Texas Senate April 11 is also passed in the House.

English faculty member becomes first to fill ombudsman position
Gene Wright, a professor of English now on modified service, has been named the university's first faculty ombudsman. Wright was nominated by the Faculty Senate to serve in the recently created position, then his nomination was approved by Howard Johnson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and he was appointed by President Norval Pohl. Wright began serving in the new position in February.
