National Public Broadcasting System chief operating officer to speak at April 29 lunch

Today is the last day to reserve tables for the 2004 College of Education luncheon on April 29, featuring Pat Mitchell, president and chief operating officer for the National Public Broadcasting System. Mitchell's presentation is titled "Education: The Key to Success for North Texans."

The luncheon is from noon to 1:45 p.m. at the Adams Mark Hotel, located at 400 North Olive Street in Dallas.

Sponsored by the UNT College of Education and KERA public television in Dallas, the event will gather key business, industry, education and community leaders in the North Texas area to discuss the importance of education to preparing a future workforce for the region.

"The dedication to the creation of a high-quality, seamless educational system from pre-kindergarten to college for all North Texas students is critical for this region today and in the future," says Jean Keller, dean of UNT's College of Education. "The additional purpose of the luncheon is to generate scholarships for future teachers."

Scholarships generated will help prepare teachers to educate students in the 170 school districts in the North Texas area.

Individual tickets cost $50, while corporate sponsorships range from $5,000 to $10,000. Contact Julie Brown at (940) 565-2523 to reserve tickets. Sponsorship levels are as follows:
