Board of Regents authorizes $31.5 million to finance residence hall

In a March 7 teleconference meeting, the UNT Board of Regents approved a supplemental resolution authorizing up to $31.5 million in revenue financing bonds to finance constructing and equipping a new 600-bed residence hall and a dining hall on the Eagle Point Golf Course property. Construction is slated to begin in June.

Women at work — Women from all walks of life and all areas of the country, including Marty Newman, executive director of University Communications and Marketing, spent time during the last two weeks in March participating in an all Women Build to complete a Habitat for Humanity home for a Denton family. The house was started and completed in just two weeks.


EDS contributes $6.25 million software to UNT

Plano-based Electronic Data Systems became a corporate partner of UNT recently by contributing Product Lifecycle Management software valued at $6.25 million to UNT's Department of Engineering Technology.

UNT's International Week begins April 7

Students from more than 120 countries will be represented as UNT observes International Week April 7-11.

Parking lot 10 scheduled to close in May

Parking lot 10, located between the Science Research Building and the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Building on the north side of campus, will close at the end of the spring semester to make way for the construction of a new science building, slated to begin in May. The closure will affect 300 parking spaces.

Tricks and treats — The University Union celebrated its 55th anniversary with the annual Union Fest on March 12. The day's events included cake and entertainers such as Bill Fry (left), who used student volunteers like Alex El Charif (right) to demonstrate different rope tricks.



UNT departments on the move

The Risk Management and Environmental Services office moved in early January from the second floor of the Student Health and Wellness Center to its own building, previously the Sycamore Apartments, located at 217 North Texas Blvd.

The Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program moved from Chilton Hall, Suite 263, to Rooms 204, 215 and 255 of the Student Health and Wellness Center in January.

Also in January, Computer Support Services moved from the fifth floor of the General Academic Building to Suite 313 on the third floor.



Staff Council elects replacement officer

The UNT Staff Council elected a new vice chair to replace Tammy Coffey, former vice chair, who has left the university, at the council's regular meeting March 5.

Nutrition course assisting U.S. Army Reservists

An online nutrition course of Priscilla Connors, assistant professor of merchandising and hospitality management, is making a difference serving the U.S. armed services.

2003-04 Staff Council elections are this spring

In accordance with the Staff Council's bylaws, about half of the council seats are up for election each year as members serve two-year staggered terms. The council is made up of representatives from five job categories: 1) Administrative/Professional, 2) Paraprofessional/ Technical/Police, 3) Office Support, 4) Service and 5) Skilled Crafts. A member can be elected for a maximum of two consecutive terms and then must take a minimum two-year absence before being eligible for re-election. The terms of office for members begin Sept. 1 following their election and end Aug. 31 at the end of their two-year term.
