Staff Council elects replacement officer

The UNT Staff Council elected a new vice chair to replace Tammy Coffey, former vice chair, who has left the university, at the council's regular meeting March 5.

The council elected Brian Bethea, assistant program director in athletics, to fill the position.

The council also welcomed four new members who have replaced former council representatives who have either left the university's employment or were promoted into a different employment category. Martha Hall, accountant in financial reporting, replaces Jean Cody as a representative of the paraprofessional group; Teresa McCloud, administrative assistant in the Speech and Hearing Clinic, replaces Clara Richard as a representative of the office support group; Casi Odom, service coordinator in admissions, replaces Barbara Howe as a representative of the office support group; and Rachel Smith, coordinator in student services, replaces Coffey as a representative of the paraprofessional group.

The council heard a report from the Committee on Committees regarding replacing the former council members on their respective committees. It was decided that their replacements would fill their positions on the committees. The council also heard a report from the Nominations Committee regarding the status of the nominations process. The Staff Council nominations were closed April 1.

In other business the council discussed communications with constituents, including a suggestion to keep lines of communication open between constituents and representatives regarding budget concerns; a suggestion to form mentorships for new council members; and a suggestion to communicate with other state university staff councils to share ideas.

Details from a special Staff Council meeting held April 2 will be included in the April 18 issue of InHouse. The council's next regularly scheduled meeting is at 2 p.m. May 7 in Marquis Hall, Room 118.
