UNT Earth Day activities aimed at building community pride

World in handsEvery day is Earth Day, but there's one special day each year when UNT offers earth-friendly activities promoting environmental awareness.

"We are very excited about building an Earth Day experience here at UNT that the community can take pride in," says Kelly Finch, facilities coordinator for the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Building. "We look forward to sharing the experience with as many people as possible."

This year's Earth Day celebration at UNT will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. April 19 in the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Building.

Activities and events include environmental art and gardening, environmental book readings, a clothing recycling station, an alternative-fuel vehicles demonstration and environmental speakers. All activities and events during the celebration April 19 are free of charge. Food and beverages are also free.

UNT will also sponsor "An Earth Day Dash: A Run in the Woods." The 5K run/walk is at 8 a.m. April 20 at the Greenbelt Trail at Highway 380 East, three miles past Loop 288.

An entry fee of $13 will be charged before April 16. After that date, the cost is $15. The cost for students is $10 by April 16 and $12 afterward. Entry fees should be paid to Finch. Car pooling is encouraged because of limited parking spaces at the Greenbelt.

For more information or for a complete list of activity times, call 369-8936 or go to www.cas.unt.edu/earthday for up-to-date information on all events.
