University Day started off with a bang April 5 when the Talons spirit group fires Boomer the victory cannon at 11:30 a.m. outside of Willis Library, kicking off the day's celebration. A replica of the bell originally used to sound curfew also will be rung.

Faculty Senate members approved changes to the group's bylaws and to the senate's charter during the senate meeting March 13. The charter changes must now be presented to the faculty for approval before they are officially made.

UNT College Bowl team to compete against faculty, staffCollege students with ideas

It's time for UNT faculty and staff members to study encyclopedias, videotape and watch Jeopardy!, and dust off their "Trivial Pursuit" games.

UNT's student College Bowl team will challenge teams of faculty and staff members during the first College Bowl Challenge April 15. The event, open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the University Union Lyceum. Tickets are free to UNT students and are $2 for everyone else. Tickets can be purchased at the University Honors Program office, Room 309 in the General Academic Building. Tickets will also be sold at the door. All proceeds will buy buzzers and training materials for UNT's College Bowl team.

InHouse@UNT will receive an award for visual design from District IV of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education at an awards presentation April 8 in Oklahoma City.

The award was one of nine CASE honors earned by University Communications and Marketing.

Staff Council members voted to write a resolution supporting the creation of a UNT-provided child-care program at the council's meeting March 12. The resolution will be given to administrators, who will make an eventual decision regarding the child-care issue.
