Next week marks International Week 2002 at UNTworld map

An international food fair, world cultures fair and market, foreign films and dance parties are just a portion of the festivities planned for UNT's International Week, April 8-13.

The theme, Celebration of World Cultures, highlights more than 100 countries through activities such as the native dress and flag processional at 11:15 a.m. April 8 at the Shrader Pavilion, which kicks off International Week. The processional will be followed by opening remarks from UNT President Norval Pohl and Denton Mayor Euline Brock and a performance by the Afrikinia Cultural Troupe from Ghana.

Other activities include a lecture by Norman Neureiter, science and technology adviser to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell; an art exhibit displaying international student art; and a scholarship and awards presentation at the International Education Committee Awards Banquet.

Other features include screenings of foreign films from countries such as Russia and Germany, a world cultures performance and fashion festival, and meetings of international conversation clubs.

The week concludes with the fifth annual African Cultural Festival at 8 p.m. April 13 at the Murchison Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20 per person and will feature a another performance by the Afrikinia Cultural Troupe.
