Faculty and staff are encouraged to welcome new and returning students to campus for the 2003-04 academic year by participating in Howdy Week 2003 Aug. 24-30. Since 1982, Howdy Week has coincided with the first week of classes during the fall semester, helping to make the transition into college life a little smoother for students. Activities planned for this year begin with a bang at the annual Mean Green Fling with live music, games and free food from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Campus Green, located between the University Union and the Business Administration Building. The remainder of the week includes informational programs and resources like the Eagle Information Tent on the Campus Green, which gives students general information about the university, and entertainment activities like the Dive-In Movie Aug. 27, where students can watch Jaws while relaxing in the swimming pool. At InHouse's press time, whether the movie would be screened in the Physical Education Building or the new Student Recreation Center had not been decided. Call (940) 565-3825 for information. New additions to the Howdy Week event list include a "speed dating" session from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Silver Eagle Suite, and the Wells Fargo Madden 2004 Playstation2 Tournament Aug. 24. Plan to stop by the Mean Green Pep Rally and Cookout at Fouts Field Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. for live music and other entertainment.
The week ends Aug. 30 with a UNT vs. Oklahoma football game watching party in the Syndicate, on the first floor of the University Union, at 6 p.m. For more information, faculty and staff should contact Amy Ayres at the Office of Student Activities and Organizations at (940) 565-3807 or aayres@unt.edu.
