An article by JOHN HIPPLE, senior staff counselor and associate professor of counseling, development and higher education, was published in the July 2001 issue of Visions, the American College Counseling Association's newsletter. The article is titled "Client Session Patterns: One Center's Experience."
MARIE-CHRISTINE
KOOP, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures, received
a grant for $25,000 from the Quebec Ministry of International Relations
to organize and direct a national, two-week research seminar on Quebec
society and PERRY KOZIRIS, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, was presented with the 2001 National Strength and Conditioning Association Young Investigator Award. MARK
RORVIG, associate professor of library and information sciences, was
awarded the 2001 Steven I. Goldspiel Memorial Research Grant by the Special
Libraries Association. Rorvig was chosen for his project, "Exploiting
Image Content Features for Image Index Term Assignment."

by HARRELL GILL-KING, director of the Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology,
at Fort St. Louis, the first European settlement in Texas, is the topic
of a July 22 Denton Record-Chronicle article. FOSTER
RODEN, Regents Professor of finance, insurance, real estate and law,
speaks about the importance of knowing Spanish in today's marketplace

a television advertising campaign spotlighting UNT athletics in the Aug.
3 Denton Record-Chronicle. BRIAN WHEELER, exhibit coordinator for the Elm Fork Education Center, discusses the center's natural gas-powered bus dubbed "The Mean Green Environmental Machine" in the July 23 Denton Record-Chronicle. DAVID WILLIAMSON, assistant professor of sociology, comments on his contribution to the creation of a sociology program at Neve Yerushalayim, an Orthodox women's school in Jerusalem, in the Aug. 3 Denton Record-Chronicle.
SHIELA VAIL MEYER, 69, of Denton died July 20 at Denton Regional Medical Center. She was executive director of the Health and Wellness Center from 1970 to 1994. Meyer was born July 19, 1932, in Ellis County, Okla. Survivors include three sons, Stuart Meyer of Wichita Falls, Beau Meyer of Garland and Larry Meyer of Denton; two brothers, Jack Haines of Fargo, Okla., and Jim Haines of Rolling Hills, Calif.; one sister, Karen Martin of Woodward, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held July 23 in Woodward, Okla. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward. CLARICE EDLA JOHNSON PAULS, 76, of Denton died July 27. She was the food service manager of West Hall from 1980 until 1992. She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Austin. After completing high school in Hutto in 1941, she attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University), where she earned a bachelor of science degree in institutional management in 1945. She was a registered dietitian and during her career worked at the San Marcos Boys Academy and at Texas Woman's University in addition to UNT. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the American Home Economics Association and the Texas Home Economics Association, among others. Survivors include her husband, Edward Pauls of Denton; three daughters, Sarah Houdek of Lake Dallas, Debbie Coomes Reinhard of Lewisville and Becky Jones of Denton; one brother, Quinton Johnson of Farmers Branch; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held July 31 at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Flower Mound. Burial was in Palm Valley Cemetery in Round Rock.
