Planning office surveys current, former students During the spring semester, the UNT planning office conducted two surveys one of former students and one of current students to help planners and administrators assess and understand students' motives for leaving the university and their perceptions of UNT. Of the 1,080 former students surveyed, 183 responded. Of the participants, 50 percent said they left UNT to transfer to other universities most to Texas A&M or the University of Texas at Austin. Other reasons students gave for leaving included that they moved out of the area, working and going to school became too difficult or they had other responsibilities. The study also found that 20 percent of former students plan to return to UNT. This was the first time the planning office surveyed former students, according to Ricardo Anzaldua, senior institutional research analyst in the planning office. The survey given to current students asked for opinions about university-related items including UNT's image, faculty, facilities and scheduling. Of the 243 questions on the survey, students gave an overall dissatisfaction rating only to parking, with 80 percent of students unhappy. In addition, the survey reported 90 percent of current undergraduate and graduate students agreed that faculty "have a good attitude toward students." Of the students surveyed, 85 percent of undergraduates and 83 percent of graduates said that faculty are "fair but demanding."
