It's time to gear up for this year's American Heart Association 2004 Denton American Heart Walk on Saturday, Oct. 9. UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson and UNT President Norval Pohl are co-chairing this year's event. The goal of $40,000 will support research for the prevention of heart disease and strokes. To meet this goal, Denton County residents are being asked to come together to raise money — preferably at least $100 each — and then celebrate life and honor those lost to heart disease with a 5k walk (3.1 miles). Opening ceremonies for the walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of West Sycamore and Welch streets, just east of the Art Building. The walk will begin at 9 a.m., with walkers proceeding through downtown Denton to the Texas Woman's University campus and back to UNT. Teams of walkers are being formed across the Denton community and the UNT campus. Visit www.americanheartwalk.kintera.org/dentontx and type "Denton" in the city search field, then click on the "HW 2004-2005 Denton, TX" link for more information and to register. You may join a team or walk as an individual. For more information, walkers or donors may contact a UNT-based organizing committee member:
The American Heart Walk is an annual non-competitive walking event designed to bring public awareness to physical activity and a heart-healthy lifestyle in addition to raising money to fund the mission of the American Heart Association.
