Faculty, staff participants needed for new student mentoring program

More than 3,800 recent high school graduates will arrive at UNT next week to begin their college career. During the fall semester, they'll try to find enough time to study, get involved in campus activities, make friends, do their laundry and fit in at a large university.

Faculty and staff members can help these freshmen and other new students adjust to and cope with university life by participating in the Helping Our Students To Soar (HOSTS) mentoring program.

Each volunteer mentor is required to meet face-to-face with the student or students assigned to him or her at least once a week and make additional contact by phone or e-mail at least once a week. Mentors and the students they are mentoring must also participate in programs sponsored by HOSTS.

For more information or to sign up for HOSTS online, go to www.unt.edu/mentoring/hostshome.htm.
