Regents confirm Lee Jackson as new UNT System chancellor

The UNT System Board of Regents voted unanimously July 25 to confirm Dallas County judge and former Texas legislator Lee Jackson as the UNT System's third chancellor.

There's a new bird on campus

UNT community members may notice a new face around campus this fall. And we aren't talking about incoming freshmen, new faculty or staff members, or even UNT's new chancellor.

Summer graduation is Aug. 10

Lew Taylor, professor of management and director of the Murphy Enterprise Center, will be the featured speaker during the general convocation portion of the UNT commencement ceremonies Aug. 10. Taylor was nominated and selected to speak by members of the Faculty Senate.

2002 Summer II enrollment climbs 8.5 percent over 2001

The unofficial head count numbers for Summer II, which were up 8.5 percent coupled with substantial enrollment gains in Summer I and the May Mini-mester indicate that as of the July 11 census date UNT summer enrollment is up dramatically over last year.

UNT professor works to predict a fire's probable pathway

Earl Zimmerman, chair of the biology department, spent part of his summer vacation observing firefighters battling blazes in the West.

Zimmerman and his former student Tom Alcoze, an associate professor of forestry at Northern Arizona University, are conducting research to help predict the path a fire will most likely take.

Zimmerman was in Durango, Colo., June 18-25, watching the destruction caused by some of the worst fire outbreaks in recent memory.
