UNT enters agreement with Mexican university The exchange of ideas is crucial to the research process. That sentiment is the genesis of what recently became an international exchange program between UNT and La Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico at Toluca, Mexico. UNT President Norval Pohl signed a formal agreement July 23 with Rafael Lopez-Castanares, Pohl's counterpart at La Universidad Autonoma, to initiate an exchange program. The agreement formalizes previous efforts undertaken to link the chemistry and materials science departments of both institutions. The agreement expands cooperation to include the physics and environmental science programs of both campuses. The agreement initially permits Mexican students to study under UNT faculty in Denton and in Toluca. As the exchange program expands, other disciplines will be offered, including academic fields beyond the sciences. Having worked together in discussion of polymer research, Lopez-Castanares; Witold Brostow, UNT Regents Professor of materials science; and Victor Castano, UNT adjunct professor of materials science, were instrumental in developing the exchange program. "With specific ideas about research in the areas of physics, chemistry and materials science, we wanted to open up communication between other academic areas in our respective universities and provide an exchange program for our students," says Brostow.
