Counseling and Human Development Center The Counseling and Human Development Center provides services to faculty, staff, students and community members who are experiencing marital problems, discipline issues, depression and any other psychological issue. The center is directed by Dee Ray and is staffed by counseling program master's and doctoral students. The center acts as a training ground for counselors. Students perform intake sessions with clients to assess their needs, then decide on the best counseling method to use and set up a schedule. Located in Stovall Hall, the center was recently remodeled and all of its systems were upgraded. With new digital recorders, students and instructors can now monitor all 16 counseling rooms and three play areas. The monitoring allows for better feedback on techniques and styles of counseling. All sessions are confidential; the observation and taping of the sessions is for instructional purposes only. Clients range from children to adults and many are referred by other counseling services in Denton. The center is not affiliated with Counseling and Testing Services located in the University Union, but it does provide an additional outlet for counseling. A limited number of counseling sessions are available free to faculty and staff through Counseling and Testing Services, then if additional sessions are needed, those services are provided by the Counseling and Human Development Center for a fee, based on a sliding pay scale. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Judy Glaser, instructional support clerk, at 565-2970.
