of folk art, textiles marks SOVA 10th anniversary
UNT
Distinguished Alumna Jean Andrews is a well-known Texas artist, writer
and collector who has amassed more than 1,600 pieces of folk art,
textiles and items of ethnic dress during almost 60 years of travel
around the world.
Talent
Search funded for five more years
For the first time, UNT's Talent Search program has been awarded funding for five years by the U.S. Department of Education. Only the top 10 percent of proposals are awarded an additional fifth year of funding; most only receive funding for four years.

Stressful
life events linked to injuries in football players, according to UNT
study
Parents
of teen-agers and young adults who play football may want to pay special
attention to the levels of stress in the lives of their young athletes.
Researchers in the UNT Center for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence
say high school and college football players who are experiencing stressful
events in their lives before the start of preseason practice and the
first game are more likely to be injured during the season than their
teammates. They also have a more difficult time coping with their injuries.

members honored at annual convocation ceremony
Several faculty members were honored at the annual Faculty Convocation Aug. 19.
National science grant puts students on fast track
UNT
physics, chemistry and materials science faculty are providing undergraduate
students nationwide with an opportunity to put their careers in engineering
research on the fast track.
