ELIMINATING THE REPLACEMENT DIPLOMA FEE OF $25.00

PERTINENT FACTS

In 1998-99, 286 students ordered replacement diplomas. The initial cost to the Registrar for a replacement diploma is approximately $5.00. The Registrar does not necessarily charge the $25.00 replacement fee for every diploma sent. For example, if an individual did not for some reason receive his or her first diploma, the fee is waived.

RATIONALE

Eliminating the replacement diplomas charge will meet the needs of UNT’s alumni and will promote good will among them. Most replacement requests result from some personal hardship or minor disaster. The amount collected from this fee is not worth the cost of collecting it given the relatively small number of replacements for which a fee is actually charged.

RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS

We request the Board of Regents approve the ELIMINATING THE REPLACEMENT DIPLOMA FEE OF $25.00, effective immediately.
