UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS MISSION STATEMENT

PERTINENT FACTS

The mission statement for the University of North Texas was last reviewed and reaffirmed in December 1993 as a part of the regular Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s review and approval of the role and scope and mission of public institutions. The mission statement is published in the University’s Policy Manual, catalogs, and other publications. The University is required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to have a mission statement that describes the current status of the university.

The University Planning Council approved a revised mission statement on May 10, 2000. The new version encompasses many of the ideas presented in the earlier mission statements and reaffirms the major role the university plays in the North Texas region.

RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS

It is recommended that the Board of Regents approve the revised mission statement and authorize its submission to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for approval.
