Scholarship available for Leadership Texas

Applications are now available for the UNT Leadership Texas Scholarship.

The scholarship, offered for the third year by the Commission on the Status of Women with funding from the chancellor's office, pays for tuition and assists with the application fee and travel and lodging expenses for the statewide Leadership Texas program. The commission also assists with the application process.

"The Leadership Texas competition is so tough," says Michelle Walker, assistant professor of technology and cognition and chair of the commission. "We want to better prepare applicants so that they have a stronger application and know what to expect. Anyone who is selected will be representing UNT, Denton and the North Texas region, so we want to provide mentoring and assistance."

The Leadership Texas program encourages women to excel in prominent leadership roles in the corporate, public and community sectors. Participants represent a diverse cross-section of Texas women. They attend five, three-day sessions that are held at various locations in the state. The sessions are designed to enhance participants' interactive skills and expand their concepts of leadership by listening to and interacting with prominent experts in many fields.

Applications are available in the Office of Equity and Diversity, Administration Building, Room 121, and in the Department of Technology and Cognition, Matthews Hall, Room 304.
