About the commencement speaker

An associate professor in the College of Business Administration's Department of Marketing and Logistics, Lou E. Pelton is an internationally known expert on global marketing channels, marketing ethics and relationship marketing.

Pelton, who joined the UNT faculty in 1994, has conducted research and training seminars for companies in Asia, Australia, Europe and South America as well as in the United States.His service to UNT includes inaugurating the university's first business and merchandising study-abroad program in China.
Pelton has also led students on study-abroad trips to Malaysia, and has been a guest lecturer at many universities in the United States and abroad.

At UNT, Pelton was chair of the Faculty Senate this past academic year. He currently serves on the Scholarship, Faculty Senate Executive and Faculty Governance committees, and on the advisory boards of the Honors Program and International Studies Program.

In June, Pelton took 30 students to Hong Kong and China's Guangdong province (formerly Canton) to tour manufacturing operations for J.C. Penney, Fossil, NCH and other companies with headquarters in the North Texas region. The students interacted with local business and government leaders to explore ways in which culture impacts global marketing.

He is the senior author and editor of several books. His textbooks have been translated into Spanish and Chinese and are distributed in 18 countries. Pelton has also published more than 90 articles in Industrial Marketing Management, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Macromarketing and the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, among others. He is the editor of the Journal of Marketing Channels and serves on several editorial review boards.

The 2002 recipient of UNT's J.H. Shelton Excellence in Teaching Award, Pelton was a nominee for the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Minnie Piper Stevens Foundation in 1999.

Pelton also received teaching awards from the Academy of Marketing Science, the UNT Council of Business Students and UNT's Mortar Board Honor Society.

Pelton received his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Baltimore, master of business administration degree in marketing from Texas Tech University and doctoral degree in marketing from the University of Mississippi.
