2004 proclaimed ‘Year of the University Press'

The Association of American University Presses and the Association of Research Libraries have proclaimed 2004 the "Year of the University Press" to celebrate the important role presses play in the scholarly communications process.

The UNT Press joined the AAUP this year and is celebrating the yearlong program by launching two new thematic series and publishing three "anniversary" volumes, says Ron Chrisman, UNT Press director.

The two new series are titled Al Filo: Mexican American Studies Series and North Texas Military Biography and Memoir Series. The first book in the latter series, Rattler One-Seven: A Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's War Story, is a Military Book Club Selection. The "anniversary" volumes include Interpreters With Lewis and Clark to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the expedition; Worse than Death: The Dallas Nightclub Murders and the Texas Multiple Murder Law for the 20th anniversary of the worst mass murder in Dallas history; and Eleven Days in Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege at Huntsville, Texas for the 30th anniversary of the longest prison siege involving civilian hostages in American history.
